Looking at the origins and meanings of some common Filipino Christmas words 🎄🎁 Did you recognise them all?

To everyone who joined us for our Christmas gathering — thank you for filling the night with joy and warmth. This celebration was a tribute to our incredible Committee and the unwavering support of those who have stood by FiliFest over the years 🙏

The night began, as always, on Filipino time 😂 — even our lovely host and CEO wasn’t exempt! We feasted on an incredible dinner by @rapsalondon who treated us to amazing food that had everyone cheering (especially when the lechon and sisig came out). We played a variety of games that were fun for the most part… though perhaps a bit frustrating for the spectators. Pinoy Henyo rematch, anyone? 💀

And, of course, we wrapped up the night with good ol’ karaoke — where we may have uncovered FiliFest’s very own Frank Sinatra, Hev Abi, and Gloc 9 😶‍🌫️🤩

To the many more who couldn’t make it this time, you were deeply missed 💛 We send our heartfelt regards and see you in the new year with more opportunities to get together, for sure! ✨

We are profoundly grateful to end the year surrounded by the people who make our journey so meaningful. 🥂

Thank you to the Philippine Embassy @philippinesinuk for inviting us and organising this event 🎄

We had the joy of connecting with new people, and enjoyed the flavours, games and entertainment that was quintessentially Filipino — bringing a little bit of the warmth of home to London.

Here are snippets of the evening that we absolutely adored! 🌟

Alumni homecomings in the Philippines are typically held during the holiday season, particularly in December, as many alumni return to their hometowns or provinces for family gatherings and Christmas celebrations 🎉

At FiliFest, we’ve been blessed with incredible people who helped build us from the ground up, with the support of so many more pushing us forward over the years 🌟 This holiday season, we’re celebrating a truly Filipino Christmas — complete with food, games, and music — to honour everyone who has been part of our journey, from our Committee to volunteers, performers, hosts, and beyond 🎶

💌 This event is by invite only — please check your DMs or inbox. We can’t wait to share this special evening with you! 💛

Our Chairperson (@soy.rica ) went a bit extra and turned an intimate despedida party into a games night/ fright night at her apt. Totally on-brand for filifest!

We couldn't help putting together a little highlight and behind the scenes!

Who has not heard of the aswang?

The question is rhetorical.

Personally, I have always heard of scary stories growing up, especially whenever I go back to the Philippines. Little did we know - these myths that have scared us throughout decades.. they were also used by the CIA in the 1950s!

Swipe left to find out how the USA managed to fight (and win) against a guerrilla group by manipulating the masses through folklore! Before that, I never really fully understood the impact that these stories had (and still have) on Filipinos.

And what about you? Would the tactic work on you? Do you consider yourself superstitious? 🤔🫠👻
