Chief Media Officer
More than just an annual festival, FiliFest has expanded as a platform to advocate for the promotion and celebration of Filipino culture in the UK. As Chief Media Officer of FiliFest, I head up the Media Team as we continue to expand and produce our own content on platforms such as Youtube, IGTV, TikTok, Reels, Spotify and Apple Podcasts. As CMO, I coordinate our skilled team of editors to ensure the production of quality videos which promote the FiliFest vision and values, as well as collaborating with the FiliFest Community through our platform. Along with the Media Officers, I am a video editor for FiliFest TV and have also enjoyed being (what our Chairperson, Rica, likes to call) the 'face' of FiliFest, which means that I work both in front and behind the camera. Our team is small but mighty, comprised of talented video editors with creative minds, constantly brainstorming and conceptualising new and innovative content for FiliFest and bringing the ideas of the committee to fruition. I am super proud to head up this team!
I joined FiliFest in 2019 as Chief Operating Officer. I was involved in liaising with business partners, designing the FiliFest logo and talent scouting as Stage Manager and Host of FiliFest 2019. Managing the FiliFest 2019 stage was a big feat; sourcing talents to perform, planning the stage schedule, promoting our business sponsors and representing FiliFest as the event host. I still actively employ these skills I continue to host FiliFest events and scout for talents to collaborate with us on FiliFest TV.
When I'm not working on FiliFest I am focusing on my degree at UCL (final year BASc Arts and Sciences), where I study a myriad of disciplines from History of Art to Public Health, Literature to International Affairs, Psychology to Global Development and even French. I have also been the Publicity and Marketing officer for UCL Filipino Society and UCL Christian Union, where I get to work on graphic design and social media strategy. I enjoy the intellectual challenge of an interdisciplinary degree and am excited to see how I can apply these disciplines and skills to community work here in the Philippines, where I am currently based.
Hello! My name is Katie and I'm a media officer at FiliFest. I'm currently a student at the University of Sydney, where I concentrate on my majors of Marketing and Education. Additionally, I'm a marketing intern at a Filipino social enterprise and a Filipino art gallery. As a media officer at FiliFest, my responsibilities include;
My connections to the Philippines relate to my mother's side of the family. In particular, my mother is from Cebu City and I grew up in Manila. In Manila, I had the privilege of learning more about my Filipino heritage while also promoting Filipino talents through being an organizer of the second annual Manila Student Film Festival. I also was able to create a short film called "Sari Sari", which told the story of a young boy trying to help his sister.
A huge passion of mine is accurate representations and increased representation of Asian - specifically Filipino (due to my background) - culture in the media. This is one of the many reasons I'm proud of being in FiliFest; an organization focused on connecting and representing Filipinos abroad.
